FAQ: What is Rateable Value (RV)?

If your business premise doesn’t have a water meter, the property is unmetered. This means that your water bill isn’t based on how much water you’ve used, instead it’s ordinarily made up of a charge based on the rateable value of your premises. Please note, some wholesalers can charge differently per region for unmetered supplies.

Rateable values are decided by the Valuation Office Agency (VOA) and are based on the annual rental value of a property.

If you’d prefer to be charged based on the water you use, it might be possible to have a water meter installed by your wholesaler. For more information on this, get in touch with our Customer Experience team.
